La Nostra Storia

Everything in Italy has history. Here’s ours.

Built to last.

Standing for nearly five centuries, Casa Rosati has stood the test of time.

Ripa di Fagnano Alto

The village of Ripa di Fagnano Alto (also known as “Ripa”) was founded in the late 1230’s at the behest of King Frederick II, who encouraged the development of defensive outposts along the Apennine Mountain range.

Ripa sits on a hilltop overlooking the Valle dell’Aterno, a sweeping river valley in the Abruzzo region.

Palazzo Dragonetti

In the 16th century, Marquises Dragonetti de Torres were the first to establish the ancient palace as their country home.

Sant’Emidio

Throughout its history, the Abruzzo region has experienced a major earthquake around every 300 years— having taken place in the 1400’s, 1700’s and, most recently, 2009. These occurrences led to the local adoption of Saint Emidio, the patron saint of earthquakes.

The 2009 earthquake (5.9 magnitude) inflicted significant damage on the greater L’Aquila area, including Casa Rosati. We like to think that the palazzo survived the quake thanks to our very own sculpted relief of St. Emidio on site (pictured left).

Fortunately, thanks to Casa Rosati’s historic significance to Ripa, the Italian government funded the $3.5 Million restoration project conducted over the span of several years.

Below are a few photos of the restoration —

Casa Rosati

The Rosati family took over the palazzo during the 1700’s and kept it in the family for generations. Over the years, they opened it up to host friends and tourists alike as a Bed & Breakfast.

And in 2022, the family decided to pass the palazzo along to its current owners, who continue to honor the Casa Rosati name.
